About the Instructor: Adam Leavens
Adam Leavens of Structural Integration Toronto suggests that while assessment and reassessment may not always be a primary focus in every RMT’s practice, there is a significant opportunity for all therapists to improve by learning how to better observe and interpret the unique patterns presented by their patients.
Many therapists notice a recurring cycle: patients returning with the exact same tightness and symptoms, requiring the same areas to be worked on repeatedly. Adam explores the "why" behind this cycle, investigating the root causes and identifying where else in the body therapists should be looking.
Experience & Education
With over 22 years of experience as an RMT and educator, Adam has had the privilege of learning from some of the industry’s most influential mentors. His extensive clinical background includes:
-
Structural Integration: 600 hours of in-person training with Thomas Myers of Anatomy Trains.
-
Functional Movement: A 40-week intensive training with the Gray Institute.
-
Fascial Fitness: Specialized workshops with Robert Schleip.
-
Neurovascular Release: Recent advanced studies with Kier Schumaker.
These mentors have shaped Adam’s philosophy: treating the body by analyzing systems and patterns rather than simply focusing on the localized site of tension or pain.
In this workshop, Adam shares how he blends this diverse knowledge to understand the development of chronic pain. His approach looks at the entire body as an integrated system where every part impacts the whole. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to assess and address body-wide patterns, ultimately leading to more effective and sustainable treatment outcomes for their patients.
Key Learning Outcomes
- Master the Mechanics: Deepen your understanding of how the body manages load and where those forces might be "getting stuck."
- See the Big Picture: Stop chasing pain and start seeing the full-body postural habits driving your patients' issues.
- Efficiency in Action: Learn a 10-minute assessment to interpret local and global movement patterns.
- The Big 5 Framework: Implement our foundational rules for assessing posture and movement.
- Better Results: Bridge the gap between assessment and treatment with targeted home-care strategies for long-term patient success.
