The Lower Back & Body Workshop

Low back complaints are among the most common reasons patients seek massage therapy. But when the same patient returns with the same areas of tightness, discomfort, and restriction, it may be time to look beyond the low back itself.

In this webinar, RMT and educator Adam Leavens explores how joint mechanics and soft tissue patterns in the feet, knees, and pelvis can influence the low back. Rather than repeatedly treating the site of symptoms, Adam will encourage participants to consider the larger movement and postural patterns that may be contributing to recurring complaints.

Drawing on more than 22 years of clinical experience and extensive training in structural integration, functional movement, fascial fitness, and neurovascular release, Adam will examine the body as an interconnected system. Participants will learn practical ways to assess relationships between the feet, knees, pelvis, SI joint, and low back and consider how addressing these areas may support more effective, longer-lasting treatment outcomes.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

See the bigger picture: Identify broader postural and movement patterns that may contribute to recurring low back complaints.

  • Unlock the Joints: Explore key biomechanics from the feet through the knees, pelvis, and low back, along with assessment and treatment considerations for restricted movement.
  • Build a foundation: Assess foot function and recognize how movement at the feet can influence structures further up the kinetic chain.
  • The 1: Examine an often-overlooked component of knee movement and its potential relationship to dysfunction elsewhere in the lower body.
  • Align the Pelvis: Explore pelvic mobility and alignment and how they may affect loading and movement through the SI joint and low back.

About Adam Leavens, RMT

Adam Leavens is an RMT and educator with more than 22 years of clinical experience. His approach to treatment focuses on understanding the body as an integrated system and identifying patterns that may contribute to persistent pain and movement dysfunction, rather than focusing solely on the area where symptoms are experienced.

Adam has completed extensive advanced training with internationally recognized educators, including 600 hours of in-person Structural Integration training with Thomas Myers of Anatomy Trains, a 40-week Functional Movement intensive with the Gray Institute, Fascial Fitness workshops with Robert Schleip, and advanced studies in Neurovascular Release with Kier Schumaker.

These diverse influences have shaped Adam’s clinical philosophy and his approach to assessing the relationships between structure, movement, and function. Through his teaching, Adam helps therapists expand the way they assess common musculoskeletal complaints and develop a more whole-body perspective they can bring to their clinical practice.
