At different times in our lives, we might be struggling and feeling unsure of how to help ourselves. This can lead to increased anxiety, low mood and feelings of “burnout”. Chronic stress within the workplace can be a factor in experiencing burnout and having difficulty when managing our jobs This is especially true for healthcare professionals Coping skills provide us with strategies to build a wellness toolbox that can enhance overall mental health and wellbeing Having a set of strategies we can use in a regular way can be essential for avoiding burnout and taking care of ourselves on a daily basis This talk will provide participants with a few key coping strategies to take with you in order to enhance your mental health, engage in self care and enhance overall well-being. This talk will also incorporate some guided exercises and discuss how to implement these skills and strategies into your daily life.
Learning Outcomes
- Be able to discuss why coping skills are important and how they can help manage general stress and feelings of burnout
- Understanding of how present moment awareness/mindfulness can help us to ground ourselves within the present moment and make different choices than we would have otherwise
- Learning tools that allow one to make space from difficult thoughts and feelings and focus on what is important to you for overall well-being
- Learning ways to build these skills into your schedule in a manageable way daily
About the Presenter
Dr. Marlene Taube-Schiff, Ph.D., C. Psych., R. Psych
Dr. Taube-Schiff completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec in 2005. She then completed her residency at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, Ontario and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Taube-Schiff then held positions in various academic teaching hospitals in Ontario, working with a wide variety of individuals in both outpatient and inpatient hospital settings. She is one of the founding professionals of the Sunnybrook Intensive Services Program for OCD. This is the only residential treatment program for individuals with OCD in all of Canada. She currently remains affiliated with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and is involved in research initiatives.
Dr. Taube-Schiff has been a Registered Psychologist for close to 20 years and her clinical work has focused on the delivery of scientifically-supported treatments for obsessive compulsive and related disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, relationship issues, as well as a wide range of emotional, behavioural and relational issues. Dr. Taube-Schiff ensures every individual she sees receives treatment that is tailored to their individual needs. She works with adolescents, teens and adults throughout Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
