Shoulder pain is often attributed to the rotator cuff, but many patients present with symptoms originating from other structures within the shoulder complex. This webinar explores the assessment and management of common non-rotator cuff sources of shoulder pain, helping clinicians improve their differential diagnosis and clinical decision-making.

Participants will learn about common areas of pain, including but not limited to the acromioclavicular (AC) joint, the long head of the biceps brachii tendon, labral pathology, and adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder). Each topic will begin with a review of the relevant anatomy before progressing to key subjective questions, orthopaedic assessment techniques, and clinical findings that help differentiate these conditions. The webinar will also cover exercise recommendations to support effective patient management.

By the end of the session, participants will have a practical framework for assessing non-rotator cuff shoulder pain and applying targeted treatment strategies in clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Differentiate common non-rotator cuff causes of shoulder pain through a structured subjective and objective assessment.
  2. Select and interpret appropriate orthopaedic tests to improve the differential diagnosis of common shoulder pathologies.
  3. Develop evidence-informed rehabilitation programs for common non-rotator cuff shoulder conditions.

CMTO Competencies :

  • Communicate effectively: focus on using layman’s terms that practitioners can use with their clients to get the message across effectively
  • Function in a client-entered manner: performing differential assessments for shoulder impairments allows the treatment to be more focused on the what the client needs
