Meet Elaine

Initially, Elaine visited a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) after an unsuccessful carpal tunnel surgery in hopes of some pain relief. She started massage therapy before her repeat surgery on her right hand, and continued after she had the same surgery on her left hand. She feels that massage therapy was instrumental in helping her recover from those surgeries and successfully return to work, and has seen great benefit from massage therapy over the years.
“I feel Massage Therapy helped me to be able to continue to work for years after my injuries and continues to help me to do the many things I love to do,” Elaine said.
By accessing regular massage therapy treatment Elaine hopes to be able to comfortably walk, bike, sleep and carry her grandson. She feels that her massage therapy treatments are helping her achieve those goals.
“With regular massage therapy, or ‘tune ups’, as I like to call my massage therapy appointments, I am able to do the activities I enjoy,” Elaine said.
Like many Canadians, Elaine’s goals for her health and wellness were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Elaine was diagnosed with spinal stenosis a few months before the pandemic hit, and she found massage therapy to be very helpful in relieving her pain and helping her complete her regular daily activities. When RMTs had to shut down in the initial stages of the pandemic, she found that she really suffered.
“I experienced more pain and stiffness without these therapies, even though I was doing an exercise program at home,” Elaine said. “Some days I had difficulty walking and I did experience difficulty sleeping due to discomfort.”
Elaine felt confident and comfortable accessing massage therapy treatment after RMTs were able to reopen, because she felt the cleaning and safety precautions that RMTs were required to follow were very thorough and comprehensive. She began to feelrelief once she returned to massage therapy treatments.
“I hadn’t realized how tight my muscles were until I resumed massage therapy and acupuncture that my RMT provided”, Elaine said. “I felt the tension relieved in my muscles and felt much better.”
For Elaine, the best part of her massage therapy treatments is how much better she feels when the tension in her muscles is released. She believes that massage therapy is an essential part of health care for many people, and that people should consider visiting an RMT despite the concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The benefit that this therapy provides improves the quality of life for many people,” Elaine said. “The public should be reassured that Massage Therapists are required to adhere to the safety guidelines provided by their regulatory College.”
