Position Statements

The Registered Massage Therapists' Association of Ontario is the professional voice of massage therapy in Ontario. It is a member driven, not-for-profit association that provides leadership for and advocates on behalf of the profession. The RMTAO provides information and programming that encourages professional growth and high standards for massage therapists and promotes the profession to the public, government, business and other professions.

As a part of its role, the RMTAO Board of Directors considers a wide-variety of matters that are impacting the profession and its delivery of health care to Ontarians. In so doing, the Board establishes and publishes Position Statements to the profession.

The RMTAO Board of Directors is not responsible for nor does it have the authority to set regulations, by-laws or position statements that regulate the profession. By establishing its own Position Statements, the Board is detailing its leadership position on matters and advocating for their implementation either by the profession voluntarily or by working to influence government and its agencies, including the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, to implement these positions under the law.

Any Position Statement approved by the Board of Directors is based on the information available at the time. Any individual who has information about an existing Position Statement that would warrant the Board’s reconsideration, or if you have information about a matter on which you believe a Position Statement should be prepared, please correspond with:
